4.0 Purpose of the Risk Matrix

The risk matrix helps rope access workers make informed decisions based on the severity and likelihood of hazards. It ensures that workers, especially when working at height, assess all variables before acting.

4.1 Example:

Task: Define your Risk Value while using flammable solvent while suspended on Rope Access.

  • Likelihood: Possible (due to evaporation in wind) – Value of 2
  • Severity: Serious Injury (if ignited or inhaled) – Value of 4
  • Matrix Result: Yellow (Risk Value of 8) – Mitigate risk or seek supervisor

Ǫuick Tips:

  • Always pair the matrix with your field-level risk assessment.
  • Document supervisor approval when required.
  • Reassess risks when conditions change (e.g., sudden weather shift).
