The new Irving Oil Home Office is located in historic uptown Saint John, New Brunswick, and is designed to bring Irving Oil employees together in a shared, collaborative space. In keeping with its surroundings the building’s design is kept classical with modern amenities. The office is 13 storeys high with a skylight at the 11th storey and an atrium curtain wall. The atrium and skylight provide an abundance of natural light indoors and a terrace on the 5th floor provides employees direct access to the outdoors. You can watch a video of the building coming to life on Irving Oil’s YouTube channel here.
Pro-Bel Technical Solution
We designed a conventional davit and anchor system, a monorail for window washing purposes, and a horizontal lifeline system for fall protection. Wall anchors around the perimeter of the 12th and 4th floor roofs and recessed terrace anchors on the 5th floor terrace provide access to much of the façade. Davits on the 12th floor provide access to the midsections of the eastern and western facades. Two parallel monorail tracks are fitted in the interior on either side of the skylight; these will provide access interior access to not only the skylight but the walls as well. The horizontal lifeline (cable) system is installed around the perimeter of the main roof for safe access to fall hazard zones (restrictive areas) at the roof edge.
