Eponymous with its prestigious neighbourhood, The Yorkville also embodies the luxury, attention to detail and design philosophy of the Bloor-Yorkville area. The 31 storeys tall building features a 4 storey podium and coloured fins that end in a dramatic canopy above the elevator penthouse. Box-shaped glass sections of the façade protrude out surrounded by dark metal, creating a strong geometric architectural presence in the neighbourhood.
Pro-Bel Technical Solution
The complicated architectural elements of this condominium called for a fall protection and window washing design that is a combination of several different systems that work symbiotically to service the entire façade. We designed a combination system of davits and anchors on levels 26, 29, 31 and 32 to provide stage access to the majority of the façade. Rigging sleeves on levels 23 and 31 and drop-in anchors on levels 25, 26, 30 and 31 are used in conjunction with the davits and anchors to gain access to hard to reach areas. We also designed a monorail system on the underside of the overhang on the southeastern corner of level 22 to gain access to the windows below it. A horizontal lifeline system around the perimeter of the main roof provides fall protection when accessing equipment in fall hazard zones (restrictive areas) safely. Intermittent Stabilization Anchors (ISAs / Stabilization buttons) are placed approximately every 4th level to ensure safe vertical travel along the façade. However, the buttons are placed at every level along the section of the façade to be serviced by the monorail in order to stabilize intermittently at each level, when working from the ground rigged/launched suspended platform.
