One Bloor is an iconic building located in the heart of the city of Toronto on the corner of Bloor and Yonge. Also the intersection of Toronto’s two major subway lines, Bloor Yonge is a significant location now home to luxury shopping and high rise condos, the most prominent of which is One Bloor. Rising an impressive 76 storeys, the condo adds a sculptural element to the Toronto skyline with its undulating balconies and terraces (watch a time lapse video by Hariri Pontarini here). The terraces at the 7 storey podium step back from the street, with the tower stepping further back. This allows the building to remain the impressive landmark it is without dominating the intersection.
Pro-Bel Technical Solution
At 257 metres tall (843ft), One Bloor required a Building Maintenance Unit (BMU for short and also known as a Roof Car) due to its height. We designed a custom Building Maintenance Unit (BMU / Roof Car)featuring a fixed drum hoist, a 2 stage telescopic boom (arm), and a fixed counterweighted system (trackless). The fixed counterweight allows the stage to move inwards to access the façade under overhangs created by the unique sculptural design. The beautifully design façade is equipped with Intermittent stabilization anchors (ISA’s / Stabilization Buttons) for soft line stabilization. The podium is serviced by roof anchors and davits on level 7 and a davit system on levels 3 to 6 to service the cascading terraces. The davit systems are designed with recessed davit bases to ensure the aesthetic of the building is preserved.
