Located in Toronto’s North York suburb next to the Bayview subway station, the Arc is a distinctive glass building standing 15 storeys tall. The landmark condo resembles a cruise ship with its curvilinear design by Kirkor Architects.

Pro-Bel Technical Solution

The Arc’s unique design called for creative technical solutions on our part to ensure the building would be maintained and cleaned thoroughly without compromising the safety of maintenance workers or the aesthetic of the building.

The condo features a large terrace on the 8th floor and several overhangs on levels 9 and 12. The unique curved façade of The Arc also presents the challenge of providing a solution that is both economical as it is technically sound.

We designed a davit system around the perimeter of the building. The south side of the building, where the arc shape is most prominent, required extra davits to ensure complete access to the curved façade. Recessed davit bases with cover plates were designed for the terrace on level 8 to ensure the equipment is completely hidden away in the amenity area when not in use. Rigging sleeves were installed on levels 8, 9, and 12 to service the overhangs. We also designed intermittent stabilization anchors (ISAs / Stabilization Buttons) on every 5th floor to ensure safe vertical travel on suspended platforms.
